Welcome
Refugee Integration, Stability, and Education
RISE Tutoring is an Arizona State University student organization, sponsored by the American Muslim Women’s Association, which helps refugee youth achieve academic and personal success through tutoring and mentorship.
Our Mission
Refugee children who move to the U.S. often fall behind in school due to linguistic and socioeconomic barriers. RISE Tutoring seeks to change that—one student at a time.
We provide individualized tutoring to our students designed for their unique educational needs, paired with guidance and mentorship, to help them achieve academic and personal success.
Programs
PAPAGO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
In spring 2017, we began working at Papago Elementary School. Over the past few years, we’ve watched a group of bright, energetic kids grow, and we couldn’t be more proud of them. However, most arrived in the United States without English, and struggled to catch up to their peers in basic spelling, reading, and math. We made it our mission to change that.
MEGA
The students we tutor at Mesa, formerly at AMWA’s office, were our very first. We met these kids in 2013 before we were an organization, and since then, our students and tutors have become family. For a while, we moved from place to place to continue tutoring; currently, we tutor at the Islamic Community Center in Tempe. Today, we continue to provide tutoring and homework help.
